What we’re loving this month: Hygge Vibes

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, November is the perfect time to embrace the Danish concept of hygge, a lifestyle centered around warmth, comfort, and togetherness. In interior design, hygge translates into creating spaces that feel safe, serene, and soul-nourishing. Don’t we all want that!!??

What Is Hygge?

Hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”) is more than just a design trend. It's a way of life. Rooted in Danish culture, it emphasizes cozy atmospheres, simple pleasures, mindful living and a connection to loved ones.

In your home, hygge is about crafting an environment that invites relaxation and joy, especially during the colder months. I think we could all get on board with this type of decor at home, right?

Minimalist Yet Cozy Design Elements

Scandinavian design is known for its clean lines and minimalism, but hygge adds a layer of warmth and softness. Here’s how to blend both:

Neutral Color Palette: Use whites, soft greys, taupes, and muted earth tones.

Natural Materials: Incorporate wood, wool, linen, and leather for tactile comfort.

Layered Textures: Think chunky knit throws, sheepskin rugs, and plush cushions.

Soft Lighting: Use warm-toned bulbs, candles, and fairy lights to create a gentle glow.

Creating Intimate Nooks and Reading Corners

One of the most hygge-inspired things you can do is carve out small sanctuaries in your home. Reading nooks essentials include a comfy chair or window seat, a soft blanket and a few pillows, a small side table for tea or coffee, ambient lighting (either a floor lamp or a wall sconce) and obviously… a curated stack of books!

Other Cozy Corners

And it’s not just about reading nooks… cozy corners can extend to meditation or journaling space with floor cushions, a breakfast nook with soft seating and natural light and of course, the coziest of fireplaces with layered rugs, blankets and pillows.

These spaces may all look picture perfect but Hygge isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. As November invites us indoors, let your home become a haven of warmth and simplicity. Whether you're redesigning a room or just adding a few cozy touches, embracing hygge can transform your space and your mindset.
